Overview

Do you want to make a positive impact in your community by providing an important service? We are looking for self-motivated individuals with excellent attention to detail to join the Assessor's Office as an Appraiser I.

This position is the starting point for those wanting to become licensed appraisers! Duties include: excellent customer service, data collection, site characteristic inspection, and sketching building footprints both in the field and office.

Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training for gathering and tabulating data for the appraisal of single-family residential real property, as well as sales confirmation.

The typical schedule for this position will be 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Flex scheduling is offered after the initial training period, as well as a hybrid remote work option.

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

  • Applies the principles of mass appraisal and adheres to the Assessment Calendar.
  • Uses blueprints, maps, plats, surveys, and other resources to perform property assessments.
  • Analyzes data from field inspections of single family residential real property and ancillary structures to determine property valuations.
  • Evaluates information about property attributes.
  • Researches and confirms single family residential real property sales information.
  • Responds to taxpayer questions regarding property value inquiries or methodology used and also responds to taxpayer protests or abatements on property values; defends Assessor's Office property value, when necessary, in higher level appeals.

We are looking for a candidate that will:

  • Develop the skills and the desire to get licensed with the State of Colorado and be of service to their community.
  • Be self-motivated and pay attention to details.
  • Work independently after the initial training period .
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills when speaking with property owners and other members of the public.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Be proficient with software and business applications including, but not limited to Word, Excel, RealWare, Apex, IRES, statistical models, and email.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Additional coursework related to single family residential real property preferred.
  • Possession of Colorado Ad Valorem Appraiser license within two (2) years of hire, required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
